While I bring life coaching into my spiritual direction no matter who I am working with, the simple fact is that my background is in pastoral ministry and working with pastors and church leaders through challenging times. I also know how hard it can be for pastors to seek out support, and how hard it is for church leaders to get the support they need, without burning out. What is Coaching?
Pastors today are discovering the benefits of having a professional coach as well as a spiritual director. Just as professionals in the corporate world have coaches to help them be their best, pastors are encouraged to engage a coach who can help them excel in their ministry. All church leaders, not just pastor, can benefit from a ministry or leadership coach. Unlike a sports coach, as a life or ministry coach I do not tell you what to do; I help you tap into your own wisdom as you face the challenges of ministry today, while at the same time bringing in my expertise and experience to help guide you. In coaching you:
- Set goals for your ministry
- Address challenges in your ministry context
- Build confidence in your role
- Examine your perceptions about yourself, others, and ministry
- Grow by reflecting on your actions

I have spent 20 years in the trenches working with congregations and pastors. I understand the unique challenge of leading congregations today, both from the perspective of a church pastor and that of an executive presbyter (regional minister responsible for 65 churches and their pastors). I see pastors and church leaders long for continued growth in their spiritual life, for a safe place to explore ideas, for someone to work things through with, and to help them reach the next level.
